Tell FAA Don’t Let Space Companies Bypass Environmental Laws

The Trump Administration is proposing to allow commercial space launch companies, such as SpaceX and Blue Origin, to bypass 13 federal laws for their license applications. Many of these are bedrock environmental laws, such as the Clean Water Act, Clean Air Act, Endangered Species Act, and Marine Mammal Protection Act, which exist to protect our water, air, wildlife, natural areas, communities, and families from potential harm.
By waiving compliance with these laws for commercial space launch and reentry, nearby coastlines, our natural resources, and local communities would face unquantified risks from space flight activities including impacts caused by launch vehicle debris, explosions, fires, high decibel noise and sonic booms, industrial water discharge, site development, crash landings, and more.
Now is the time to speak up! There is an ongoing public comment period closing August 31. Please use this form to submit an official comment to the Federal Aviation Administration today!
Waiving legal compliance with these keystone laws not only poses a direct threat from exempted space flight companies, but it also would establish an extremely dangerous precedent that would undermine the very foundation of the laws.
Tell the FAA that it’s completely unacceptable to consider circumventing our nation’s foundational environmental laws to fast track commercial space flight development. Please click "take action" and then “edit comment” to personalize your message.
