The 2026 legislative session in Sacramento recently ended, and eight statewide bills that will protect our coast and ocean are on the Governor’s desk for final approval.
If you care about California’s beaches, send a message to Governor Newsom asking him to sign these bills into law:
- AB 1448 - Strengthens California’s protections against the expansion of offshore oil and gas drilling.
- AB 2734 - Updates the Whale Tail License Plate program so more revenue directly supports coastal access, outdoor education, and grant programs.
- SB 58 - Establishes new hydrogen sulfide air quality standards to safeguard the health of coastal communities and residents.
- SB 1180 - Creates the California Plastic Pollution Mitigation Fund, directing resources toward reducing plastic waste.
- AB 762 - Prohibits the sale of disposable, battery-embedded nicotine vapes, a major source of plastic waste that ends up on our beaches.
- AB 2253 - Cracks down on misleading "recyclable" labelling on plastic products, ensuring consumers can trust environmental claims.
- SB 1268 - Codifies the goals and programs of the Outdoors for All initiative, achieving equitable access to outdoor recreation.
- AB 1744 - Establishes truth-in-labelling standards for sunscreens marketed as "reef-friendly".
